The Do’s and Don’ts of Cosplay Etiquette

Do: Respect Personal Space
If you want to take a photo with another cosplayer, always ask first, but if they are eating/drinking, taking a break then wait, don’t spoil the illusion.

Don’t: Touch Without Permission
This includes costumes, wigs, props, and especially people!

Do: Compliment and Encourage Others

Don’t: Make Negative Comments
Everyone cosplays at their own skill level. Avoid comments like “That’s not accurate” or “That’s the wrong colour shoes for that character.”

Do: Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks

Don’t: Block Access Points
Be mindful when posing for photos so you don’t block access routes, entrance to doors etc and try not to leave your kit or personal items on the floor, which someone could trip over and potential “borrow” your stuff.
